Why Tjimme Babies? |
All of the authorized Friesian stallions are fine and magnificent horses. They each have their strengths and desirable features. If the new "sport look" is desired, Tjimme would likely not be the appropriate sire (although 5 of the 6 Tjimme offspring out of Zenia have had the more refined body build). On the other hand, Tjimme's conformation approached perfection as a fine representative of the classical look. He was athletic and showed beautiful action. These are features that Tjimme most certainly gives to his babies.
Friesian horses are known for their fine dispositions. But Tjimme's gentleness was so much more than could be attributed to the breed in general. Your breeding goals may focus on very specific and desirable qualities. Everyone wants their horse to be loving and gentle. Everyone wants their horse to have a fine, endearing personality. Everyone wants their horse to be responsive and willing. On this score, Tjimme babies tend to emulate their sire. Certainly the ones born on our farm have.

Purchasing a horse is not unlike buying a car. Not all cars are the same. They all have four wheels, engines, doors, bumpers, etc. But it is not appropriate to compare on the basis of quality and performance issues an entry level economy vehicle with a luxury, fine tuned, highly engineered automobile. Nor would we expect to pay the same for these two very different cars. Relative to Friesian horses, there is most certainly a spectrum of quality available in the marketplace; prices vary tremendously. It behooves the buyer to sort out what kind of Friesian horse is appropriate...and for what price.
Tjimme babies are very desirable, especially now that he is no longer alive. His babies and progeny are beautiful. They have fine action. Typically they emulate their sire's unique personality and disposition. To use the car analogy again, one can certainly be content with an economy car if he has to. But there are always alternatives at a different level of quality. They just cost more.
